232 || How to Find Money for Your Dream if You’re Just Getting Started || Katie Jones

Is money a barrier to launching your dream?

This episode is the first in a series of three finance-focused conversations in my financial series where we’re talking about how to think about spending your hard-earning money on a dream.

Listeners have been telling me that time and money are among the biggest barriers to jumping into a God-shaped dream. That may be the reality for some; however, the reason I wanted to do this series was so we could have some real talk about this topic of finances (after realizing I’ve been neglecting it all this time).

IF YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION IS STANDING IN THE WAY OF YOUR DREAM, THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU!

I brought back Money Coach Katie Jones this week, who shared her dreamer story in episode 215, and we’re talking about how to think about your finances so you CAN invest in your dream in the future.

This is Katie’s passion and I know you’re going to get so much out of this conversation where we talk about:

  • The secret to getting started on a dream even when you feel like you don't have the money

  • Underlying motivations that could be influencing your desire to spend, and

  • The importance of identifying priorities to see if you're actually spending on what's most important to you.

Scripture:

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.
~ 1 Timothy 6:10 (ESV)

Jesus Feeds the 5000

“When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

“As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.’

“Jesus replied, ‘They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.’

“’We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,’ they answered.

“‘Bring them here to me,’ he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.”

~ Matthew 14:13-21 (NIV)

“Do not fret because of those who are evil
    or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
    like green plants they will soon die away.

Trust in the Lord and do good;
    dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
    your vindication like the noonday sun.

Be still before the Lord
    and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
    when they carry out their wicked schemes.

~ Psalm 37:1–7 (NIV)
