178 || Faithfulness is the Way to Freedom and Joy in Christ || Caroline Cobb

Caroline Cobb is a mom and a wife who has a passion to tell the stories of scripture through singing and songwriting. When she started writing her own songs, it was just a hobby; but a challenge from her husband and a looming thirtieth birthday turned her passion project into a profession. Her newest album A Seed, A Sunrise {listen here} explores the longing of Advent, the joy of Christmas, and the anticipation of Jesus’s return, and builds on her previous storytelling albums highlighting the message of scripture.

IF YOUR DREAM IS JUST A HOBBY BUT YOU BELIEVE IT COULD BE MORE, THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU.

In 2011, Caroline gave herself the goal to write a song for every book of the Bible in a year. That put in motion a dream to tell the stories of scripture through music with imagination, artistry, and faithfulness to the text.

Listening to this episode, you’ll gain insight on:

  • How stepping forward in your dream, despite the weakness and insufficiency you feel, is often the just what you need to lean more into Jesus,

  • The dangerous distraction that comparison can be for creative work, and

  • That being faithful to the call upon your life is far more important than the numbers of people actually paying attention to work you’re doing.

MORE ABOUT CAROLINE:

Caroline’s new album, A Seed, A Sunrise, explores the longing hope of Advent, the joy of Christmas, and the anticipation of Christ’s return. Produced by Isaac Wardell (Josh Garells, Sandra McCracken) and featuring gospel trio Resound and a fourteen-piece string orchestra, the new album builds on Caroline’s previous work the Blood + the Breath (2013) and a Home & a Hunger (2017), the latter being named among The Gospel Coalition’s "Best Albums of the 2010’s." Both trace a theme from creation to Christ’s return, with every song parachuting into a different biblical scene. Caroline and her husband live in Dallas, TX with their three children Ellie, Harrison, and Libby.

Scripture:

For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs
to God and not to us.

~ 2 Corinthians 4:5,7 (ESV)

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

~ Psalm 127:1-2
