145 || How to Shift Your Dream When You Need To || Dianne Jago

Dianne Jago is founder of Deeply Rooted Magazine and author of a newly released book, A Holy Pursuit, teaching us how the gospel frees us to follow and lay down our God-shaped dreams. Her dream grew out her faith in Christ and a desire for others to know and love Him too. Along the way, that dream has been displayed in different forms as life her circumstances have ebbed and flowed, but it has always remained true to its original purpose.

IF YOU’RE FEELING THE NEED TO PIVOT YOUR DREAM, THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU.

No matter what comes your way as you consider and pursue a God-shaped dream, everything is an opportunity to glorify God.

Dianne and I recorded this interview long before either of us knew what the reality of life would look like on March 18th in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic and several days into social distancing for most of the United States’ population. Wherever you are, I pray you are safe and healthy (and that you remain that way).

But I also want to acknowledge that it might feel really difficult to dream right now or to act upon dreams already in motion when you’re trying to figure out things like homeschooling your kids for the first time ever, missing out on beloved activities, cancelling necessary appointments, managing work-from-home scenarios with a spouse or even older children who have returned home from college. Or even just coping with the disconnection and loneliness we’re all facing if we’re minding the six-feet-from-your-neighbor rule.

Whatever it is you’re finding most difficult about our new normal, I pray that you’ll find encouragement in this episode with Dianne Jago.

In this conversation, you’ll learn:

  • How the gospel frees us up to follow our dream

  • How Scripture can help us navigate dream chasing

  • How God can use the church body in really practical ways to make our dreams a reality

  • How to choose between your To Do list and your time with God

  • Ways that dreaming and motherhood can go hand-in-hand, and

  • That every opportunity that presents itself is an opportunity to glorify God

FB Post encouraging kids (esp high school seniors) to write down their experience of living through COVID-19:

Scripture:

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…
~ Philippians 3:8-10 (ESV)

I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
~ Acts 20:24 (ESV)
